Physical Education is taught to all years in the general curriculum.
Pupils in junior school have two sessions of one hour each week. In Key Stage 3 they participate in the five areas of the national curriculum Swimming, Dance, Games, Athletics and Gymnastics.
Activities available during curriculum P.E. are; Football, Hockey, Cricket, Badminton, Trampolining, Swimming, Basketball, Tennis, Fitness Suite, Aerobics, and other exercise programmes.
In year 8 pupils are taken to Ards Leisure Centre for a seven-week block of swimming during the year. They also have the opportunity to compete in a swimming gala at the end of the second term.
As part of the games programme in years 8,9,10, boys play both Football and Hockey and girls take part in Netball, Hockey and Football. They can continue their interests in these sports through extra curricular activities where clubs meet on a weekly basis. Matches are also played against schools in local leagues.
Dance and Gymnastics are taught in each year of junior school with girls having the opportunity to develop these skills further in extra-curricular clubs.
Athletics takes place during the summer term. Pupils work at perfecting technique and performance in curriculum time. They have the opportunity to showcase their talents at Sports Day enjoying the excellent facilities at the Mary Peters Track and at various athletic competitions throughout the summer term.
For those pupils interested in PE they have the opportunity to select G.C.S.E. P.E. as an option choice at the end of Year 10. Assessment is 70% practical and 30% theory.
Pupils in Years 11&12 have a triple period of P.E. each week. Pupils have some choice regarding the activities they participate in. This encourages them to take responsibility for their own leisure time when they leave school.
