English is studied by all pupils throughout the school and our schemes of work are designed to meet the requirements of the NI National Curriculum in three main skill areas: reading, writing and talking and listening.

Throughout the year pupils are encouraged to write for a variety of purposes and for a range of audiences.  This has included having poems published in an anthology of poetry for local schools over the past 3 years and corresponding with pupils in Iceland as part of the Brent Geese Project in school.

EXAM PERFORMANCE

Our KS3 results have improved consistently over the past three years, which is very encouraging.  This year 77% of pupils received a level 5 or above in this exam which is above the NI average of 61% for all schools in the Province.  We are very proud of the efforts made by both staff and pupils to ensure such success.  It is pleasing to note too that no pupil was considered to be below the standard required to achieve a level at KS3.

KS4 Results have shown steady improvement too.  Last year all pupils entered GCSE English and 42% received a pass at C or above. 100% of our pupils received a pass grade A-G that was also very encouraging for those seeking to follow vocational courses at local Colleges of Further Education.
