Art at Nendrum College
The art department has a wide variety of equipment with all the necessary materials to facilitate the making of art in a wide variety of mediums. The aim of the art department is to deliver the curriculum in a dynamic and exciting way giving support to all levels of ability.
KS3: At key stage 3 pupils will be introduced to a wide range of media. Areas of fine art and design will be explored and the pupils will produce work in both two and three dimensions. They will have the opportunity to work in paint, print, clay, I.C.T and textiles. They will also explore the work of artists through participation in various projects, as well as investigating elements from their own environment and lives through their art. This will give the pupils strong insight into the subject and allow for consistent artistic development over the three years.
KS4: Pupils study G.C.S.E art over a period of two years. Coursework carries 60% of the exam and includes a project in fine art and also design with either a two or three-dimensional outcome. In year 12 the pupils will complete an externally set assignment worth 40% of the overall exam mark. Throughout the course pupils will make informed decisions regarding the direction of their project with the support and guidance from their art teacher. A number of trips will take place in order to allow viewing of current exhibitions. As well as looking at the work of other artists and designers pupils will be encouraged to experiment in a wide variety of medium and disciplines such as painting, printmaking, I.C.T, fashion design, ceramics, photography, sculpture and mixed media.
